Podcast: The Soul of Islam – IHSAN ALEXANDER

In this first episode of Soul of Islam Radio, Ahmad and I discuss the deeper meaning of the “Soul of Islam,” as well as our hopes and vision for the podcast.

I share that Islam without spirituality is not unlike a body without a soul, and that the religion only truly comes to life when the inner dimension is embraced and honored in conjunction with its external elements.

In “The Soul of Islam,” you’ll learn about the two dimensions of Islam, the three stages of development within the Islamic spiritual path, the goal and purpose of Islam, and much more.

We also discuss how religion without its internal spiritual dimension, or its “soul,” easily becomes the antithesis of its true purpose, and that rather than heal and make whole, it then harms and fractures.

Only by honoring the “Soul of Islam” and cultivating sincerity, humility, compassion and love can a human being fulfill the true purpose of religion and revelation.

  1. Salaam Alikum this message is more specifically to brother Ahmad your co presenter on your enlightening prod casts in particular the one on black holes, I wish to take you to task by pointing out that you are perhaps indulging in bidah in the sense that you are taking knowledge from the discoveries of western reserchers and making them relevant to an Islamic insight. Also western scientists like professor Brian cox, Stephen Hawkins, Roger penrose to name but a few do not come up with the same conclusions that you come up with infact they are atheistic scientists who deny the creation process in terms of a religiousne paradigm infact they propose a universe from nothing, by way of what’s termed quatam fluctuation or alternativly the concept of the multiverse as proposed by Hew Everett. These are profomonantly scientist which are attempting to give an explanation of the manifestation of the universe without the need for a creator. And finally I object to so called Islamic scholars which do not get the source from the Quran or the hadiths but await western discoveries to be made and then start to connect it to what is revealed in the Quran rather than he other away around I await your valuable comments.

Mb this kind of approach to islam is abit like jumping on the bad wagon to make it a popularist indeavour.

      2. Salaam ihsan,

Firtsly please do not patronise me by asking me what is my question, but how ever I will simplfy itf for you and cut straight to the chase by suggesting that you are using atheistic scientific facts and discoveries to justify quranic claims and explanations. This is a contradiction in terms and it is a process which is indulging in bidah i.e colloquially you are moving the goal post to fit the facts.
My bone of contention is that if the discoveries were Laitent within the Quran why were they not made manifest by Islamic scholars rather than in the era of Moden scientific discoveries.

        Wasalaam

        1. Assalaamu alaikum. Just a few comments. First of all i percieve the term “atheistic facts” to be harmful. Are you suggesting that facts only come from Muslims? I certainly hope not but i dont see how else to understand such a term. Second there is an interplay between Islamic fiqh and what is known of the world at any given point in time. For example. Imam Malik ruled that a valid moon sighting set the new month for the whole world. His position was based in part on the current understanding of the time and place he lived in, which was that the world was flat. In time the Muslims came to understand that the world was round. And that understanding, most likEly, came from translating and studying books from Greece and rome. The Maliki school, in light of thid new underdtNding, revised the original position of Imam Malik. please note that this knowledge was, if your terminology were to be accepted, an “atheistic fact.” The scholors of the Maliki school evidently have such an objection. Yes it is true that new knowledge can pose challenges. For example the Greek philosoPHY and its initial impact on certain areas related to aqida. Even in this ectreme case our scholars did not simply reject this knowledge. Imam alghazaly rather mastered the knowledge and then met the challanges it brought. I am not a person of knowledge or particular intelligence, i simply offer these ideas to perhaps stimulate thought on tbe matter.
          Was salaam,
          Gunnar
